The seventh album by the American punk rock band, released in September 2004. It is a concept album, dubbed a ‘punk rock opera’ by the band members. The album is critically and politically charged, expressing the disillusionment and dissent of a generation that came of age in the period shaped by 9/11 and the Iraq War. It was critically acclaimed on release, reached number 1 in eighteen countries, and has sold over 16 million copies. It features three top 10 and two top 20 singles., including ‘American Idiot’, ‘Boulevard of Broken Dreams’ and ‘Holiday’.
